Lusaka Leadership Projects - 2022
After several years of disruption, the CO team in Lusaka was unsure of what level of fruitfulness and impact to expect on campus. Nonetheless, they labored faithfully, and God has moved powerfully in the lives of students and staff. As last year drew to a close, Campus Outreach Lusaka sponsored two Leadership Projects. During these two weeks of intense learning, 54 students were trained in evangelism, discipleship, Bible study, prayer, a biblical worldview, relationships, and more. The students came from seven different campuses!
The first Leadership Project was attended by students from UNZA - the University of Zambia. During this week six students made professions of faith and 1 student acknowledged a call to missions! Regional Director, Tim Byrd, went so far as to call this “one of the most spiritually inclined projects I’ve had the privilege to be a part of over the last 22 years.”
Chimuka’s story is evidence of God’s powerful work during the project. Chimuka needed to run errands and Maclean, CO LEAD staff, volunteered to drive. They discussed the Project and Chimuka enthusiastically shared that she was learning so much and was glad she had come. She shared her genuine belief that Jesus was a real person who walked on earth and “felt the rain on His face.” She shared, “I believe in Him but cannot come to Him. I need to get my life in order and sort things out with my family first.” Maclean was able to ask Chimuka challenging questions and remind her that there was nothing she could do to be saved. Through scripture shared throughout the rest of the week, Chimuka saw that believing she must accomplish a list of to-dos before surrendering her life to Jesus was, in fact, trusting her own works as a means to earn salvation. Chimuka’s eyes were opened, she repented and is now a sister in Christ.
Many students described this experience as “life-changing” and “the best thing I’ve ever done.” Praise the Lord for the work He is doing in Lusaka, Zambia. Please pray that as these students return to campus, their love for the Lord will increase, their Gospel roots will grow deep, and each life will bear much fruit.
