Increasing Diversity Among CO Leaders
Through our engagement on the college campus, we have encountered firsthand the need for a diversity of leaders to reach and minister to the variety of needs and people groups today. This is why one of Campus Outreach's six strategic priorities over the next several years is to see Leadership Diversity at every level in the ministry.
At a recent leadership training, the CO Johannesburg team discussed opportunities for nationally led expansion and growth of the ministry within southern Africa. They also discussed the possibility of a coalition of Campus Outreach franchise churches and ministry leaders to provide a network of support to the indigenous expansion of the gospel in southern Africa.
Zwai Zulu, a national leader, spoke up and shared, “My entire time serving with Campus Outreach I’ve always thought, ‘This is great. I love serving with CO, but I could never do this long-term. I couldn’t do this for a career. I don’t have the network of support, training, and resources necessary to do this for a lifetime.’ But this possibility of resourcing that would come alongside me and help me lead and expand the gospel work here… that enables me to dream again for the first time in a while.”
The CO team in South Africa is a testimony of the significant progress we have seen in training and equipping diverse gospel leaders. However, it is also a clear example of the continued developmental needs we face in seeing leadership diversity continue to permeate our work worldwide.
