Khula Project 2023

Lindsey, Comfort, Rory, Tracy, Morgan

It has been two years since CO Johannesburg launched an expansion investigation in partnership with CO SERVE. James Broadaway moved to Capetown with his family in 2022 and was joined by additional staff in 2023. The last several months have been challenging, but the team has been encouraged by witnessing God at work. Recently, 34 students attended an evangelistic event hosted in partnership with the local church. Rory was one of 28 who attended the final session, and he committed to a follow-up investigative Bible study. He attended regularly, met weekly with James, and attended church with the team. It soon became apparent that God was working in him, and he had begun to trust Jesus. Rory was one of three students from the University of Capetown to spend two weeks of their summer in South Africa on the Khula Project.

While on the project, Comfort, Rory, and Tracy joined 60 other students to focus on being Kingdom Minded. They learned about living a life centered around Christ and glorifying Him in all they do through training in Bible study, evangelism, and stewardship. Each student was placed in a discipleship group led by an older student who walked alongside them.

Rory wrote to James after the project ended, “The teachings are great, I know how to read the Bible now, and more than anything, I can’t wait to share the gospel; I really want to see how God is going to use me in other people’s lives in Cape Town next year.” Comfort’s understanding of the Great Commission was evident as she expressed her desire to make disciples on the campus, declaring, "Now, it's not just James, Morgan, and Lindsey; it's the six of us."

Take a few minutes to watch the video below and hear how the Khula Project impacted other students.
